Back in January I attended The Luminary Workshop taught by the talented Daniel Kim. It was one of the best experiences I'll probably ever have in my career. And I'm definitely not being biased even though Daniel and his wife Ash will be photographing our wedding this October (holla).
I was humbled to meet such a wonderful group of creatives and work along side them at Saguaro Lake Ranch for this film workshop. To be honest, I was incredibly intimidated. At the time I had never even picked up a film camera. I had only stalked and swooned over the work of film wedding photographers on Instagram.
Driving to the East Valley with my good friend (and fellow wedding photographer) Ashley that morning, I was excited, yet incredibly nervous. But I didn't need to be. Everyone was so genuinely kind and hungry to learn -- just like me. This is the first workshop I've ever attended and I am glad that it was my first!
I learned so much more than just about shooting film. We got emotional and into the real meaning behind why we choose to be artists/photographers. It has changed how I see light, my approach to shooting and has fueled my passions. The workshop also gave me the boost of confidence I needed; and the feeling that I am free to be creative. To experiment and express myself as an artist.
Honestly, one of my favorite things about being a photographer is all of the interesting people I get to meet. I really do feel lucky that I got to share this experience with such a wonderful group of people. And I miss them! I cannot thank Daniel enough for sharing his talent, knowledge and heart. Now, if you've made it this far, thanks for sticking through all of that! On to the photos!
